Ear Ache in Children
Lately Princess Z has been going through an ear infection (or earache) after she had a cold raging for more than two or three days.Due to the ear ache Princess Z has been having a yellowish discharge coming out from her ear plus suffering a bit of hearing loss.(She cant hear me from a distance). After talking to my pediatrician about it,She has been put on an antibiotic course for a week.Hopefully,it will vanish within time.According to a research, It’s common in children from the age of 3 and it occurs when a virus or bacteria causes the area behind the eardrum to become inflamed. Most middle ear infections occur during the winter and early spring. Often, middle ear infections go away without any medication. However, if pain persists or if your child has fever, you should seek medical treatment. After experiencing it myself for the first time i thought of sharing a few ways to spot an earache
Sighs to spot an ear infection (earache)-
1.Ear pain (mild to severe). Babies often pull or tug at their ears.
3.Drainage from the ear that is thick and yellow or bloody. (This is what Princess Z has been going through)
4.Loss of appetite, vomiting, and grumpy behavior.
5.Trouble sleeping (crying or not wanting to sleep)
There might not be any home cure for this but there are a few things that can ease the pain along the way:
1.Use Ear drops
3.Apply warm cloths on the ear
4.Use Pain Relievers (such as Advil)
5.Use Oil Drops (putting a few warmed drops of olive oil in the ear is safe and could be moderately effective)
Many ear infections clear up on their own in about a week or two, with symptoms starting to get better after a few days. Be sure to check with your child’s pediatrician if your child has an ear pain, (under 2 years of age (and definitely if the earache is accompanied by a fever).
Listed below are a few ways to lower your child’s risk of getting an ear infection:
1.Wash your hands and your child’s hands frequently.
2.Keep unclean items out of your toddler or baby’s mouth.
3.Avoid smoky environments
The Doctor should be visited immediately if any sigh of earache is spotted to stay away from further complications.
I hope this helps!
